Children’s Centres Consultation
Gloucestershire County Council are leading a consultation on the future of Children’s Centres/Family Services which proposes to re-shape and change Children’s Centres from April 2017.
We would strongly encourage all parents, families and individuals take part in this consultation and put forward their views on the proposed plans. You can complete the online survey at www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/familyservices; the consultation closes on 11th April 2016. To help you understand the impact of the new proposals, we set out below how HVV Children’s Centre services across Stroud look now, and how they will look if the new proposals for Family Services go ahead in 2017.
How it looks now for Children’s Centres in Stroud District
In Stroud District there are currently 7 Children’s Centres run by Hill Valley & Vale (HVV). Children’s Centre services run out of all 7 Children’s Centre buildings as well as in venues across the community
Currently HVV deliver Early Education and Childcare at 3 of our 7 Children’s Centres
In Stroud District there is support for every family at every Children’s Centre from our staff and in particular from the Family Services Team
HVV Family Services staff provide targeted Outreach and Family Support in the home
HVV facilitates Ante Natal Group & appointments, Health Clinics, Breastfeeding Support, Baby Massage, Baby Yoga, Best Start groups Baby Times and Ante-Natal Pilates
HVV Family Support Staff offer groups such as Nurture, Young Parents, Dads Group
HVV run family learning programmes such as: Emotional Wellbeing, Confidence and Assertiveness, English, Maths, I can Cook, Life Skills, Parenting Skills and Domestic Abuse awareness through the Freedom Programme
HVV runs a large volunteer programme which supports and trains parents and other family members to volunteer both in our Centres and out in the community. Volunteers work in our childcare settings, lead our Family Time groups and run our Toy
Library. Volunteering provides experience and opportunities to move into work
How it might look in the Stroud District if the suggested proposals go ahead
Of the 16 Children and Family Centres proposed, Stroud will have two, these will be atTreetops in Dursley and Stonehouse Park
All Children’s Centre Family Support services for Stroud District will be based at Treetops and Stonehouse Park; staff will provide outreach services from these two bases
The remaining five buildings at Parliament and Five Ways in Stroud; Nailsworth, Wotton and Painswick will become parent and community-run centres potentially administered by a county-wide service
These community-run Centres will not be staffed by Children’s Centre staff
Community-run buildings could be used to provide the Government’s new extended childcare offer of 30 hours per week
for 3 & 4 year-olds
Childcare provision would prevent the use of these buildings as community venues
